Interim rate hike sought by B C Tel to July 1 1984

School District 59 staff cuts and funding changes noted
In a news release Superintendent Charlie Parslow reports six professional staff reductions effective February 1, 1984, bringing the 1983-84 teaching-force cut to 7.7 full-time equivalents. He notes additional secretarial and aide cuts, no more teaching cuts planned this year, and explains provincial funding shifts and mill-rate controls. He cites reductions since 1981 in School District 59 and comments on parent concerns and program availability.

BC's unionized pulp and paper mills begin lockout of 12 700 workers with 72 hour notice.
