A Dawson Creek group brings the Torch to Chetwynd on Saturday and hands it to Brian Maurer as Cross Country Skiers carry it toward the Winter Games in Price George. The relay reaches Azu Village where Nordic Club skiers from Prince George join the last leg into the city amid cheering locals.

At the January 18 meeting Mayor MacKeigan discussed Hydro Tax Assessment for Site One Campsite and Construction Buildings. BC Hydro paid 2.29 in lieu of taxes for campsite and 16.57 for the batch plant while a non hydro firm would face 26475 and 126105 respectively. Grants in lieu of taxes were approved. Snowmobile issues advanced with a new by law draft awaiting lawyer approval. Superintendent Roger Porter reported increased vandalism in the downtown area.

Official opening of thrift shop ceremony set
The Thrift Shop will hold its official opening on Friday February 3 from 7 30 to 9 00. Located in the old pool hall beside the New Blue Sky Restaurant the shop is sponsored by the Boy Scout and Girl Guide Associations. Guide officials and local dignitaries will cut the ribbon.
