The Peace River Liard Regional District formed a Regional Economic Development Commission. McNabb Named 1977 Citizen of the Year of Chetwynd
Bob McNabb was named Citizen of the Year 1977 at the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce Civic Night banquet on January 14 1978. Ed Hoffman presented the award as the previous year’s honoree and McNabb received a standing ovation. His citation highlighted years of active service in the Chamber of Commerce gymkhana ski club Lions Club and rodeo committee leadership and community projects.

Pouce Coupe Koneenoh Day Sets February 4th Events

Dogs Maul Child in Wales Crescent
A five year old child Joanne Redhead was attacked by two dogs in Wales Crescent. The incident was reported January 19 by the R C M P with bruising on both arms. Dogs owned by Donald Bellcourt and Bill Cardinal were implicated. The matter went to the Village Council and Dog Catcher. Alderman Walkden said four untagged dogs were picked up and two were destroyed. kennel space limits leave unclaimed dogs to be kept 48 hours before destruction. Residents have pressed for action against roaming dogs for over two years.

Chetwynd Commerce marks 20th anniversary at Elks Hall
The Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce celebrated its twentieth year with Civic Night at the Elks Hall on January 14. Over 100 attendees heard Frank Oberle MP and Ian Campbell speak as Bunne Hoffman welcomed guests including Mayor Lasser and Don Ashley. The evening featured O Canada, a Queen’s toast, and a 20 sparklers cake as the chamber highlighted achievements and growth.

Ceremonies will officially open the Windrem Elementary-Sec ondary School library on Monday January 30 with School District No. 59 trustees on hand.
