C S S Students Aid World Hunger Drive
C S S students gathered December 10 to share a bowl of rice and carol door-to-door for canned goods and donations to World Hunger. Over $250 was raised and more than $100 in groceries collected, as the Students Council thanks the community.

The Lake View in Chetwynd introduces automated banking available 24 hours daily with access at 175 machines across Western Canada and planned North American coverage by December 15. Cards and personal IDs protect access, three failed attempts lock the card, and deposits withdrawals loan payments and transfers are supported. Jack Ambler anticipates next week’s operation.

Council approves grant to Ski Club
At the Inaugural Council Meeting on December 8 at District Hall Alderman Shirley urged moving the ski hill grant from Committee to Regular Council. After adjournment the council endorsed a Grant-in-Aide of 2000 for 1986 and 2000 for 1987 and recommended applying to the Peace River Liard Regional District for 1987 operations. Plans include bank loan talks with Bank of Commerce and cooperation with Rod and Gun Club to finish the lodge and pursue regional and lotteries grants plus cross country ski trail development.

Call for advertising ban across province voices push from seven groups
Seven organizations join BC doctors in a province wide petition drive to ban tobacco advertising. BC Health Association BC Heart Foundation BC Lung Association Canadian Cancer Society-BC and Yukon Division BC Anglican and United Churches and Alcohol Drug Education Service back and distribute the BC Medical Association petition. BCMA President Dr John O’Brien Bell says the public can tell government that advertising a lethal product should be stopped.
