Prescribed Burn Near Chetwynd Targets Beetle Infested Area

A helicopter guided burn near Hulcross Creek west of Chetwynd covered about 96 hectares to curb spruce bark beetle spread. Fifteen workers, three vehicles, and a Bell 206 helicopter conducted the operation using a drip torch and alumagel, drawing flames inward to the center. Officials called the burn a success overall and plan similar efforts in Prince George and other communities, noting environmental and economic trade offs and the need for thorough mop up after ignition and spread control.

Police report on weekend break ins and thefts

A Lions Den was broken into and liquor taken. A local house trailer was broken into with nothing missing. A local truck was stolen in the Industrial Park and recovered downtown. A stolen Dawson Creek pickup was found burned five miles west of Chetwynd. police are investigating.
