Don Ashley takes the role of regional co ordinator on September 1 and aims to combat regional apathy seen across the nine chambers. He believes all chambers will unite when needed, despite concerns over region size and office relocation talks.
Health Minister Dennis Cocke says half of the 16 public hospitals in B C north will expand this year. Fort St John General begins a $3 million Phase One upgrade adding ambulatory care, nuclear medicine, and improved radiology and labs. Mackenzie gets 12 new acute beds planned, 7 active now. Dawson Creek and Fort Nelson projects include bed increases and service upgrades. Prince George approves a 75 bed extended unit and 26 psychiatric beds with plans for 500 acute beds and facility upgrades. Hazelton to build a new 35 bed hospital with four extended care beds.
The next regular Associat ed Chambers of Commerce meeting will be held in Hudson's Hope on Saturday August 23 1975 at 7 00 p m at the Peace Glen Motel. This will be a Dinner Meeting. Evelyn Howes models a gown she made during her Home Ec term last year. She won the senior Home Ec trophy donated by the Catholic Women's League of Chetwynd.
John Watson, project officer for Local Initiatives Program, visited cities in the Prince George Peace River area to drum up interest for the 1975 76 LIP. Applications are at Canada Manpower offices with a September 12 deadline.
A list of bursary awards submitted by the school and interested parties includes Legion Bursary of 100 dollars to Annette Girard, Legion Bursary of 90 dollars to Leona Sawatsky, Firemen's Club for Commercial to Brenda Moore, Catholic Women's League for Home Economics to Evelyn Howes, Hotel Chetwynd for Academic to Suzanne Prucks, and the Village of Chetwynd to Ross Turner.
The BC Telephone Company reports nearing completion of capital works to expand and improve service for Portage and Hudsons Hope subscribers. A new transmission system goes online by November 1, with realigned circuits and upgraded antenna equipment on Upper Bullhead Mountain. The project, costing over 328000, includes modular buildings and auxiliary gear at Portage, Hudsons Hope, and Fort St John, and will change local prefixes to 783 for Portage. The enhanced system links to Dawson Creek via Fort St John, promising better quality and more circuits.
A four member Japanese television crew filmed in northern British Columbia last week for two shows. They shot at the Prucks Ranch near Chetwynd and on the Clearwater and Carbon rivers, with footage from Williston Lake and Dawson Creek destined for 12 to 15 million Japanese viewers.
