Elken Developments promotes new homes ready for occupancy on the east side of the village near Wildmore Creek. Eleven surveyed suburban deeded lots, ranging 10 to 130 acres, are available four miles southwest of Chetwynd. Some lots already sold. map of suburban lots appears in this issue.
Alf Nunweiler today presented a cheque for 25000 to the Village of Chetwynd and 25000 to the District of Hudson Hope as their basic support grant under the Natural Gas Revenue Sharing Act. The program shares resource revenue to municipalities and supports smaller communities, with a reserve rule for tax revenue above 50 percent of 1974 property tax.
Dr. George Furnival president of Coalition Mining visited the Sukunka project south of Chetwynd. He reviewed progress and said an economic feasibility study is underway with no townsite decisions or major announcements yet. Luncheon guests included village, chamber of commerce, and press representatives.
The Office of the Honourable Robert Williams announced the acquisition of a 14.7 acre parcel from Mr and Mrs George Spence of Fort St John. Greenbelt funds cover 4000 dollars for park purposes. The site lies 6 miles northeast where Cecil Lake Road meets Beatton River and features 2100 feet of river frontage for local recreation including picnicking swimming and canoe launching. The purchase was a high priority for the Regional District of Peace River Liard in coordination with the B C Land Commission.
Economic Development Minister Gary Lauk opens a public information centre at Pine Centre Mall Prince George for the BC NKK Joint Steel Study second phase through November. Centre runs Tue Sat to gather public views and ensure access to information. A Kitimat centre will follow. Telephone reach is listed as 562 5712. Willow Flats residents told to dial seven digits after August 16 due to changes in local exchange equipment.
Finlay Forest Industries near completion of a 2.5 million dollar expansion at its Mackenzie groundwood pulp mill, aided by the B.C. Development Corporation. The project, first major BCDC Northern B.C. involvement, aims to double production and boost local employment, aligning with shifting provincial industry emphasis.
Pauline Hovard notes a year’s blueprint for a house of faith. The Julius Martin home hosts many visitors including Bob and Mrs Smith from Brazil, Dorosh family, and Terry Martin’s Toronto wedding trip. Chetwynd and Dawson Creek residents attend events and parades, with a float winning first prize.
Judge R. McQueen heard three cases. Jack Ralph Davis of Moberly Lake was fined 300 dollars and banned from highway driving for 30 days after a July 26 1975 check with a .22 breath reading. David Williams of Chetwynd faced a July 1975 charge on Highway 97, fined 300 dollars with license suspension possible for 30 days. Rita Congert of Langley pleaded guilty to being a minor in a licensed premises on June 9 1975 and paid a 25 dollar fine.
