New penalties for impaired drivers take effect Aug. 29
Fort St. John RCMP highway patrol says the tough new penalties aim to cut crashes and save lives. A driver with one impairment conviction since 1992 faces a three year suspension on a second conviction, while two or more prior convictions could bring a lifetime ban. The law also requires secured passengers and an 18 month probation for new drivers to curb risky behavior and deadly outcomes.
