Advances for area's new coal mine and jobs
Employment and Investment Minister Dan Miller says a new coal mine 45 kilometres west of Chetwynd could create up to 120 permanent jobs. The joint venture by Mitsui Matsushima Canada, BCR Ventures, and Globaltex Industries will be operated by Pine Valley Coal Ltd with open pit reserves of 15.6 million tonnes and 33 million tonnes in indicated resources. Construction could start by May or June 1998 and finish that winter, boosting northern B C’s coal exports to Asia Pacific markets including Japan.
