Provincial crackdown bans worn tires on vehicles

The Attorney General's department issued new regulations prohibiting tires with cord breaks or air leaks, more than one inch of tread damage, bulges or lumps from tread or sidewall separation, or tread depth under one sixteenth of an inch on motor vehicles and trailers.

Four Village Homes Under Construction In Ontario Village

Four village homes are in various stages of construction. Jim and Bernice Matear moved into their new home with landscaping and garage remaining. Joe Gray is well into a three bedroom house behind his Valley Esso garage, self-building in spare hours. Paul Demeulemeester has permits for a three bedroom home east of the village, built by himself. Mike Sawchuk expects completion within the month and plans resale with open inspection in two weeks.

First Load of Chetwynd Grain Reaches Bend River Farm

The Bend River farm fifteen miles south of the village, owned by Bob Roller and formerly Emil Breitkreitz, delivered the first load of Chetwynd area grain on Wednesday. The barley load was reported dry and in good condition.

Village switches to Pine River water supply

Public Works Superintendent Jim Matear announced the village has switched to water from the Pine River pumping station on Wednesday. He noted water may be cloudy during flushing operations this week, but Pine River water is expected to offer better quality.

President's safety award to Chetwynd CNFOR Mill

The Chetwynd CNFOR Mill received the President's safety award for 1970, announced in the last company newsletter. Presented by L L G Bently, President of Canadian Forest Products, he was joined by J B Joe Jarvis, assistant to the chairman and safety director. Bently noted the award rules require involvement from the entire division team.

Frederick Peck Christened in August Ceremony

Frederick Peck christened Dalton Fredrick William Peck, infant son of Mr and Mrs George Peck, was christened on Sunday August 15 by Reverend Burt Peake at the local church.
