The four day fall fair and Bonanza Days include Midway attractions, a parade at 10:00 AM, races, a horse show, entertainment and dances. Prize money totals $40,000 this year. Chuck wagons compete for $1,000. Civic leaders plan a brief meeting with Bennett before his retirement and a hospital tour and opening in Chetwynd as part of civic events. The Peace River Liard Regional Hospital District funds the new $1,264.8 thousand hospital, with completion nearly done aside from paving and landscaping.
The second Chetwynd sawmill complex near Jackfish Lake Road aims to start by end of August. Ed Anderson named General Manager with Tom Wilson handling engineering. local capital funds the project. Ten workers plus ten in the bush will be hired. The mill targets local and export markets, with 20 million feet annual cut and two years of timber reserves. Spokesmen note plans to develop local poplar markets and harvest.
The council directed a taped message be put on Dr Fast's phone for a month warning residents of no doctor or nurse in Hudson's Hope and directing emergency contact to the RCMP. Mayor Richmond said the district acquired the inventory from Dr Fast and Fort Pharmacy will cover drug costs. A report shows the swimming pool at a $350 deficit.
At a meeting in Moberly Lake Peace River municipal leaders pressed for redrawing the federal Prince George Peace River constituency. They want it divided at the Rocky Mountain divide citing two competing economic areas and seek support from Peace River Liard District and Prince George area. Mayor Frank Oberle led the push and other councils agreed.
