Pauline Laidman of Chetwynd writes about waterborne disease outbreaks in Victoria, Valemount, Princeton, Cranbrook, Creston, Revelstoke, Kelowna, and Penticton. She argues that cattle access to water sources and erosion from logging contribute fecal contamination, urging ministry collaboration to reduce incidents and improve standards.

Cantor Sawmill Shutdowns Hit British Columbia Mills

Central Interior Logging association reports Cantor extends sawmill shutdowns as lumber prices dip to 220 per thousand board feet. Mills at Chetwynd Fort St. James Rustad Bros Prince George closed two to three weeks with more downtime, while Houston and Polar mills will face shutdowns. Logging persists at a reduced level and log hauling stalls, with little movement expected until August. Truckers face financial strain. A veneer plant will relocate from Fort St John to Dawson Creek due to wood fibre shortages, as Dawson Creek watches veneer mill construction.
