BC Rail to withdraw from Tumbler Ridge line
BC Rail will not invest in extending the Bullmoose to Quintette rail line to Tumbler Ridge. The move follows ongoing losses and the closure of Quintette mine, with only a renewed coal-mining venture possibly sustaining the route. Rail assets may be repurposed while the Fort St. John to Fort Nelson segment could pass to a shortline hauler.

A snowstorm returns evening grosbeaks to feeders at Moberly Lake while about thirty redpolls feed at intervals. A Merlin falcon plies the area, diving for prey and scattering flocks in fear. A magpie occasionally hunts with little notice from the birds. Downy woodpeckers freeze when the hunter is near, and squirrels visit the feeders cautiously.

Gibson Petroleum contributes 5000 to the Nature Conservancy of Canada for wildlife habitat near Peace River. The 319 acre Griffin property near Manning is listed as nationally significant habitat for moose elk deer bears eagles and osprey. The gift funds a three year partnership with ACA and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation with ACA handling ongoing stewardship.
