Power rates must rise say BC energy minister Neufeld
Energy and Mines Minister Richard Neufeld told the PRRD board that electricity prices must rise to attract private generators and meet growing demand. He cited market pricing lifting rates from 26 to 36 per megawatt and warned Site C could push to 50. He argued deregulation since 1993 and a 9 year freeze, with future increases softened if spread over 10 years, and urged integration into a continental market aided by Powerex.
