North Central NCMA voices concerns on energy policy reform
The North Central Municipal Association released a reply to the Province's Interim Report on Energy Policy on April 18 2002 warning that electricity price hikes would devastate the northern economy and strain schools and hospitals. NCMA president Jim Thorn cites higher northern energy needs and urges affordable reliable power while supporting conservation and alternative energy. Dan Rogers adds caution about rapid deregulation and warns BCs cheap electricity could be endangered without careful study.

BC Parks to assess campground proposals in bid shift
BC Parks nears issuing contract plans for private operators to run campgrounds. Regional manager Andy Ackerman says a simple evaluation template will be used to assess bids for individual sites, with some facilities remaining in the system and others fully privatized. Operators may charge their own rates outside the system, while in system sites rates set by the province.
