BC Hydro privatization plan eyed by Neufeld
Neufeld argues power rates must rise due to Columbia River low water and a 600 megawatt gas-fired cogeneration plant operating year round. He says core assets remain with government while 2000 of 6000 BC Hydro jobs would be shed with pensions and union rights preserved. Some services like fleet repair engineering and billing would be privatized to boost private sector competition.
