Washington May 3 The Navy building program announced by President Roosevelt bars use of the South Charleston naval Ordnance Plant for armor plate or heavy ordnance. Chairman Vinson says no disposition can be made of the plant without authority to sell or lease, and the department will carry it until permission is granted. A bill to authorize sale or lease will be introduced next session.
PINEVILLE May 13 Wille Lambert of Indian creek, one of four prisoners who escaped from Wyoming county Jail Sunday night, notified Sheriff Belcher he was ready to surrender. A deputy sheriff was sent after him. Lambert is serving a two year sentence in the penitentiary. Sam Crimer of Herndon was rearrested last night, three others were captured.
Builders anticipate a surge in affordable housing as demand grows and finance loosens. A Chicago conference reported a national shortage of 500 000 homes and pointed to modest price structures, with Charleston seeing rising remodeling and a shift toward 85000 homes.
