Beacom Proposes Fair Trade Act at WV Pharmacists Meet
West Virginia State Senator Beacom told about 400 pharmacists at the state convention in Parkersburg that a fair trade act would be introduced next session. The bill would let manufacturers set trade terms for selling prices on certain branded goods, conflicting with open competition norms. The convention included remarks by officers of the West Virginia Pharmacists Association and featured a women’s tea, a men’s golf tourney, and a banquet with officer elections planned.

John Henry to Sing in New Folk Opera in New Orleans
New Orleans June 17. John Henry the cotton roller giant of Negro legend will inspire a folk opera being created by Maark Bradford and Jacques Wolfe. Bradford has supplied the text with two acts and nine scenes and Wolfe will compose music after eight months’ work here and a New York trip this week. The legend, likened to Paul Bunyan for lumberjacks, portrays John Henry as an honest man who loved a woman wronged him, and his feats with cotton and rail work are celebrated in the folk ballad.
