Good Guys See Timber Harvest Return In West Virginia Forests
State forester Lester McClung explains that after a decade without timber sales the West Virginia forest system may resume selective cutting under a new multiple use management plan. The inventory lists nine state forests and 77,000 acres, with an estimated 220 million board feet, planning a 10 year harvest near 98 million. The plan favors selective cutting on areas best suited for wildlife, water, recreation, and aesthetics, seeking to avoid broad clear-cuts except for salvage or demonstration cases.
