Margaret Truman Delivers Firstborn Son in New York
Margaret Truman Daniel and husband E. Clifton Daniel Jr welcomed a six pound eight ounce boy by cesarean in New York after midnight. The child is the first for Margaret and the first grandchild for Harry S. Truman. The couple planned a July birth, but the nursery and apartment were ready in advance. Neither name nor formal title was set, and Truman preferred not to name the infant Harry S. The Trumans, happy and tired, traveled to Independence to share the news with the former president. The baby’s arrival surprised both Truman and Daniel families.
