On US 59-169 near the Y north of town Keith R. Brown Iola was driving a 1950 Mercury when the vehicle failed to hold the curve and tipped over landing right side up. Brown was unhurt. A local festival showcased young Teresa Beech daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Beech as she joined the stage act with Marta McClung of Walnut during the Fall Festival at the Memorial building.

FBI Believes Bandits In St. Louis Area
The FBI says two armed and dangerous bandits may be in the St. Louis area. They are ex convicts William Reece Johnston and Fred Charles Riley linked to two bank holdups in Kansas with total theft of 25400 dollars. Riley escaped Missouri Penitentiary last June. Death Takes May Truitt
May Truitt 88 former operator of Truitt's Greenhouse and longtime Chanute resident died after an extended illness at her home. She taught in the Chanute school system for 25 years after graduating in 1884 and moved to Chanute in 1878 from Portsmouth Kentucky. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Koch-Skinner Memorial Chapel with Rev. Judd Jones officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Buckley Waived Preliminary Hearing on Forgery Charge
James W. Buckley of Chanute waived the preliminary hearing yesterday on a forgery charge and was bound over to district court. He could not post a $1,000 bond and remains in the county jail in Erie. Police say he passed a $50 forged check drawn on the Bank of Commerce and cashed at a Chanute food market. Buckley, a Rhode Island native who came to Chanute from Arkansas, was identified by police.

Abilene Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery
