Buffalo's Jet Ace Apt Killed in X-2 Crash Near Edwards
Capt Milburn G Apt 32 of Buffalo Kansas died in the Bell X-2 rocket plane crash near Edwards Air Force Base California. He was a 13 year Air Force veteran and served as chase pilot on the X-2 tests. The accident occurred as the aircraft reportedly failed between 45000 and 60000 feet during ascent. Apt previously helped rescue Capt Richard J Harer after a jet fire, breaking canopy with a water-filled can and pulling Harer to safety. His family includes wife Faye and daughters Christine 5 and Sharman 2.
