Police report an unusual rest period with only mileage logged for patrol cars yesterday. A Blue Comet football rally is planned with the Senior High Pep Club and students joining players, ending with a bonfire in City Park and a snake dance down Main Street to Main and Forest.
In Henderson Kentucky the white boycott at Weaverton Elementary loosens as 223 students attend with five Black pupils. Attendance rose from 206 of 870, amid a peaceful scene with segregationists across the street. The White Citizens Council vows to continue the boycott and community leaders urge integration.
Reclamation Commissioner Wilbur A. Dexheimer heads to southeastern Colorado for two days to inspect agriculturally rich lands where water is scarce. He views the Flying Arkansas project as the obvious answer and will close a four day Colorado visit with a dinner speech at Rocky Ford tomorrow night.
L. E. Stollenwerck of Kansas City spoke to the Chanute Teachers Association at the First Presbyterian church recounting four public relations requisites. He outlined establishing an organization analyzing public attitudes preparing a program to interpret objectives and implementing it through media. The meeting was led by Athaleen Dahlstrom with music by local participants.
The Air Force C47 crash on Mt. Yale left 12 dead. Pilot Col. Charles A. Miller and co pilot Navy Capt. J J. Richardson were identified as intelligence officers. Investigators gathered details after the bodies were moved to a mortuary.
The Neosho County Fair Association will hold its annual meeting at 8 p.m. next Tuesday in the high school building. Ivan Green, secretary, announced the gathering with directors for three year terms to be elected from Lincoln Centerville Danville and Shiloh Townships. A report on the recent fair and plans for next year will be discussed.
An escapee from the Leavenworth federal penitentiary dairy barn was recaptured three hours after his disappearance. Henry Williams Jr., 34, of Oklahoma City, was returned to the prison walls. he was admitted July 7 to serve a three-year sentence for violation of postal regulations.
Kathleen McClung known as Walnut Girl who won the Ted Mack show in Kansas City appears in the festival opening night October 4 at the Memorial Building. JayCee members Davenport and others back a festival queen coronation and a trampoline act while Bank of Commerce funds a 4 H Club prize. Agricultural and baked goods entries will be received at the building. JayCee sponsors plan concessions for two nights and seek new members as the group, currently led by Mrs Dale Stemple, reorganizes after an officers’ departure.
Dag Hammarskjold said he would ask the Security Council to take up Israeli Jordanian clashes in Palestine if the situation is not brought rapidly under control. He announced this in an open letter to Cuban Delegate Emilio Nunez-Portuondo, president of the 11 nation council.
Mrs. Alta Schell, 24, of Marysville, died in a one car crash on Kansas Highway 15 ten miles south of Abilene. Her husband John J. Schell had previously died Sept. 17 from injuries after a tractor accident on his Marysville area farm.
Topeka Kansas traffic fatalities listed by the State Accident Records Section show 466 in the last 24 hours to date in 1956 versus 423 in the same period in 1955.
Ground breaking ceremonies are set at Smoky Hill Air Force Base next Friday afternoon for a 535 unit Salina housing project.
The forecast calls for fair weather through Thursday with warmer temperatures, a low tonight in the 50s, and a high near 90 Thursday. Kansas drought conditions are projected to persist for at least five days with no significant precipitation. Manhattan gains its first commercial heliport at 30th Street by the Hudson River. The Port of New York Authority created a landing field to connect the city core with La Guardia Idlewild and Newark in a single aviation corridor.
Pumping of water from the Barker pool on the Neosho River began about 10 a.m. to replenish the Chanute municipal pumping station. City officials urged conservation as the pool is lower than in past droughts. First water is expected at the downstream intake in about three days after filling river bed low spots.
In Long Beach California the United Rubber Workers of America voted to raise monthly dues from three to four dollars and fifty cents. The convention delegates approved the increase by a vote of one thousand three hundred sixteen to four hundred thirty nine.

The U S Bureau of Public Roads approved a 17 million dollar cutoff route for U S Highway 50 between Olathe and Ottawa. The four lane superhighway will bypass Ottawa, shorten the distance by eight miles, and connect to Mission K110. Federal funding covers 90 percent with Kansas providing 10 percent.
The Kansas County Engineers Association objects to a proposed constitutional amendment on motor vehicle taxation. President Francis Wagner of McPherson warns it could affect vehicle valuations used for road and bridge taxes. Proponents say taxes would be paid when vehicles are licensed, but Wagner doubts Legislature plans.

Darrell D. Green longtime Southwestern Bell Telephone manager at 804 W. Main will become Pratt manager on October 1. C. H. Summerfield, Parsons district manager, announced the move and named A. E. Endres of Wichita as Green’s successor. Endres joined Parsons in 1946 and has worked eight years in the commercial department and Wichita division offices. he plans to move to Chanute around October 1.
White House press secretary James C. Hagerty said President Eisenhower is considering a campaign trip to St. Louis. He also noted a possible visit to the United Nations in the coming weeks as the international use of atomic energy for peace is debated.
