U S Steel Head Suffers Stroke After Stabbing Incident
Walter F. Munford, 59, president of U S Steel Corp, suffered a cerebral thrombosis after surgery for a deep knife wound in his abdomen. Doctors say the stroke partially paralyzed his right arm and affected his speech but he is alert and responsive. Authorities say the stabbing incident in Chatham appears accidental after an investigation by Barnstable County District Attorney Edmund Dinis.

School Reinstates Ten White Pupils in Arkansas
The Little Rock School Board reinstated ten white students suspended after a mild demonstration over expansion of integration at Central High. A hearing Thursday involved the pupils and some parents. three students missing, two withdrawing. The protest included some whites walking out and others not entering the building as two Negroes had attended Central since August 12.

Health Board OKs Budget For Next Fiscal Year

An airliner with 16 aboard crashed into a 2000 foot peak on Great Sitkin Island in the Aleutians and caught fire. A Navy pilot reported the wreck ablaze with the tail intact, searchers reached the scene hours later and Coast Guard moved in. The DC3 was en route from Anchorage serving communities and bases with five crew members, two civilians, and nine military personnel aboard. Vision Screening Workshop At Hutton School
Twenty five county superintendents, school administrators and nurses from Chanute and southeast Kansas attended a vision screening workshop at Hutton School yesterday. Mrs Margaret Wood chaired the event with nurse consultant Mrs Florence Cunningham from New York City leading the session. The program outlined school eye health, defects in children's sight and testing methods. Similar workshops run this week in Dodge City, Salina, Wichita and Lenexa.
