Local Egg Markets Have No Competition in Chanute

Chanute remains the sole regional egg market from Coffeyville to Leroy with stores like Sll Service Grocery and Olson's buying from gullible-area farmers. Prices, set daily by USDA reports, run about 2 cents under New York levels, while Grade A eggs stay in Chanute and B and C eggs go to breakers. Ballou notes grading congestion limits new markets, with Self Service Grocery moving roughly 300 cases weekly across multiple towns and 103000 eggs in total, while Olson's buys about 125 cases weekly.
