Two crashes occurred within two hours at the US169 curve near Elks Lake north of Chanute. At 7:50 a.m. a 1961 IHC semi driven by Thomas Walters Jr. left the road, spilling roofing material. Walters was admitted to Neosho Memorial Hospital in satisfactory condition. A 6:40 a.m. collision of a 1969 Ford pickup driven by Harry Tucker with a pole caused no injuries. Truck damage estimated at 2500 dollars. pickup damage 900 dollars.

Vietnam Veteran Killed in Crash in Local County
Edward King Jr. 23 of 1425 S Highland died in a one car crash 1.3 miles west of Twenty first and Plummer at 5 10 p m Saturday. Passenger Wayne Washburn 22 of 2052 N Forest sustained multiple fractures and was in satisfactory condition. King, a Marine Vietnam veteran and former machine repairman, was thrown from the Pontiac and the Santa Fe railroad pole was knocked down. Funeral arrangements set for Tuesday at Johnson Chapel with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include his parents two brothers and grandfathers.
