Hurricane Ethel weakened to 80 mph as it moved inland toward the Alabama and Mississippi coasts. The 10 am advisory placed the eye about 25 miles south of Pascagoula Mississippi, moving north at 12 mph and expected to weaken on land. Tens of thousands evacuated as tides reached 3 to 8 feet in Mobile and along the Mississippi Sound. Tornadoes hit Springfield and West Bay in Florida, two missing mariners presumed drowned near the Mississippi River mouth、as winds downed power lines and trees.

Car Crash Damages 1957 Chevrolet in St Paul
A 1957 Chevrolet driven by John Schettler 20 of St Paul received about 800 dollars in damage after colliding with a 1953 Ford pickup driven by A H Stierwalt 73 of Erie R 3 on highway K57 twelve miles east of here around 5:30 PM yesterday. Neither driver was injured. Sheriff Jerry Sloan and the highway patrol investigated. Stierwalt reportedly began turning into a drive but pulled back into traffic.

AP reports Judge Paul Heinz ordered temporary Kansas rate increases for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co while awaiting a final ruling on permanent charges. Little Girl Perishes In Hay Stack Fire
A four year old girl Linda Fae Huff burned to death when a haystack caught fire at a farm seven miles northeast of Versailles ERSAILLES Missouri. Her younger brother John Kent Huff escaped unharmed and fireman Jess Nobles pulled Linda from the flames. The children are the offspring of Mr and Mrs Jim Huff. Coroner Gene Bartrum said the cause of the blaze could not be determined.
