Two Youths Killed West of Lola
Two National Guardsmen from Yates Center died when their car struck a bridge post ten miles west of Lola. Donald Dean Wagner age 19 and Allen W. Schlotterbeck age 18 had been on reservist duty at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and were returning home after midnight when the car wrapped around a bridge post.

Six Counties Added To TB Hospital Area
The State Social Welfare department announced a six county expansion of the area served by the Southeast Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital. New counties are Anderson Chautauqua Coffey Elk Greenwood Linn joining the nine existing counties Allen Bourbon Cherokee Crawford Labette Montgomery Neosho Woodson and Wilson. The hospital will not increase capacity or staff, and only patient numbers are expected to rise. Instructions will go to county welfare directors and doctors this week.

Plumber Uses Rifle to Kill Rattle Snake in Farm Job
Raymond Mason, a Ft Scott plumber, added a rifle to his tool kit after a second day on a farm home job near Mound City. While crawling under the house he faced a two foot away rattlesnake and, with a borrowed .22, fired twice when unable to sight. The 37 inch snake with nine rattles was killed. Mason returned the next day armed and completed the job without further incident.

Two Parsonians Hurt In Small Plane Crash
In Riverton Kansas two Parsons residents Tom Brady the pilot and Mildred Stevens his sister in law received minor injuries while practicing a landing in a field four miles north of town. Both were taken to Freeman Hospital in Joplin Missouri for observation after Brady’s light plane flipped when the nosewheel collapsed and Brady became pinned beneath the wreckage.
