More than 180 people including parents, civic and church leaders, officials from the City Commission, Chamber of Commerce, USD 413 board, and Kansas Highway Patrol attended a Wednesday public meeting at Central Park Building. They discussed forming committees under the We Who Care idea to guide youth programs.
Kansas health director Dr. Lowell Wiese cites bureaucratic red tape and early missteps as the state mass inoculation plan for swine influenza slips to next month. Vaccines totaling 117000 were expected around Oct 4 with 50000 doses weekly thereafter.

Three month old Siamese twin boys Greg and Craig Biongiorni died at 2 a.m. at St. Margaret's Hospital in Fredonia. Doctors determined they could not be separated due to shared organs including part of the heart. The boys were born June 4 in Fredonia and had been moved to Wichita, Houston, and back to Fredonia.
Congressional tax writers near completing a bill to continue lower rates for individuals and corporations and revise how taxes are calculated. House Ways and Means Chair Al Ullman promised the bill would reach President Ford’s desk by September 15. The measure, in drafting for almost three years, is under a House Senate conference committee reconciling two versions.
