Trooper Koch Assigned to Chanute Radar Section
Trooper Lester Koch of the highway patrol is transferred from Columbus to Chanute to head the radar section in the fourth division covering 17 counties in southeast Kansas. Tractor Accident Fatal for Altoona Man Albert Green
Albert T. Green, 62, state highway employee from Altoona, was killed when a side mounted mower tractor overturned while mowing along highway K39 near Wilson County State Lake. Death reported instantaneous by coroner Dr. Raymond Beal. His body found by two coworkers at 4:30 p.m. Survivors include his father N. N. Green, siblings, uncles, and nieces. Funeral arrangements are pending with Roy S. Gibson Funeral Home.

The department’s August report shows bond and fine receipts fell from 94650 to 72400 dollars. Parking violators paid 16400 after 22500 in July with 731 tickets issued, 200 fewer than July. Calls for service held near 333, down from 338. 12 nontraffic arrests, no felonies. one burglary, seven grand larcenies, 18 petty larcenies, six bad checks under twenty dollars, eight vandalism incidents. Six juveniles, six family-dispute calls, four window peeping reports. no DUI arrests, but ten intoxication charges against non drivers. Thirty traffic arrests include seven reckless driving, nine running stop signs, four illegal parking, two for yielding rights, two for no license, six speeding. Timer yielded 15 arrests over three hours on two days, bonds and fines totaling 95 dollars. Patrols logged 6300 miles, 517 gallons of gasoline used. 13 meals for prisoners and five overnight stays.
Train Strikes Trailer at Fort Scott Crossing
A Missouri Pacific freight train hit a truck trailer at the south edge of Fort Scott, cutting it in two. The driver, Carl A. Igle, 44, of Devon Kansas, escaped serious injury. He said sun glare prevented timely stopping at the US 69 crossing.
