County Home On Erie Farm Vote Tuesday

Neosho county voters will decide a single two part question on selling most land east of Erie to fund a new county home for the aged. Proceeds plus a two mill two year tax would cover costs totaling about 135000 and relocate residents from the aging facility at the county farm.

Harvest Outlook Across Four Counties Based on Acreage Yields

Agricultural agents in four counties report a harvest about two weeks from completion with soybeans largely in and grain sorghums and corn well along. Slush Burns At Oil Well Slush Pond

A heavy cloud of black smoke rose on the towns west side around noon prompting police inquiries. Investigators traced the source to an oil well slush pond burn off.

R J Hayes of Chanute was reelected president of the Kansas Association of Municipal Utilities at its Wichita convention. Floyd Rinkenbaugh of Coffeyville and Eugene Vogt of St John were reelected vice presidents with Edgar O Sho walter of Kansas City as secretary treasurer. Break-ins Reported at Local Clinic and Dental Office

Burglars cracked safes at the Ashley Clinic at 5th and Plummer and at Dr L B Venhaus 915 W 3rd taking little cash and keepsakes. Checks were removed from the clinic safe but not stolen. Investigators include Undersheriff Lester Marts and Ray Emmons of the KBI. discovery times 7 a.m. and 8 55 a.m. respectively.

Joseph W. Henkle Sr., Democrat candidate for lieutenant governor, visited Chanute from Iola during a southeast Kansas swing. He plans a Wichita stop tonight and a Sunday rally at St Paul as the campaign winds down.

James Craven an insurance agent and Air Force reservist was summoned for jury duty but did not appear. He sent word he would not mind if a deputy brought him in as he was called to active duty last weekend.

Halloween Spook Activities Fill Night for Students

Full schedule lists free dances at the American Legion Hall and the National Guard Armory, a Kiwanis Spook Parade for elementary students, free movies at Peoples Theater, junior high recreation at Royster, a Fort Scott high school football game, and UNICEF fund drive. Spook paraders meet at 6 at Main and Forest. parade starts 6:30, judging with five cash prizes per grade. Royster offers basketball, trampolines, wrestling, table tennis, and short films. UNICEF drive raises about 500 dollars. Schools close the rest of the week for teachers meetings.

Nine Polio Cases Reported in Washington County

Nine paralytic polio cases reported in Washington County northwest Arkansas. Dr. Paul K. Heerwagen, county public health officer, said four of the nine are bulbar type and a vaccine program will start Sunday.

Crack units in parade for Veterans Day

Parade chairman John Barney announced three Fort Riley units will join the Veterans Day activities on November 12. The 437th Army Band the drum and bugle corps and the drill team from the 2nd Battle Group of the 8th Infantry will participate. Local groups sponsor and a post parade concert may follow. The parade starts at 10 30 a m and a final planning meeting is set for next Tuesday.

Crash Fatal EL DORADO on U S 54 harms Dearborn man

A 76-year-old Dearborn Michigan man Alva Embry was fatally injured in a Tuesday one car crash on U S 54 seven miles south of El Dorado.
