Teens Take Hub Caps In Early Morning Theft
At 3 10 a m a police report says W H Robison found four hub caps missing from a car at his 215 S Evergreen home. About 30 minutes later two Humboldt youths 16 were stopped with hub caps and a fender skirt in their car. They admitted the theft and police identified the owners of the recovered items. The boys were released to attend a 4 p m Tuesday conference with officers and their fathers. Pre Halloween vandalism included an apartment for rent sign at Memorial Building a porch garbage and cans garbage thrown on a porch a broken radio antenna and a sign taken from Sparks Cafe 720 N Santa Fe.

Winter-like disruption hits Kansas with rain or snow
The forecast warns of a new touch of winter in Kansas with light rain or snow for the northwest and along the northern border tonight and Tuesday. Skies will be mostly cloudy and temperatures turn much colder Tuesday from the low 30s in the northwest to the 60s in the southeast. Two non injury traffic incidents were reported over the weekend. Harold Franklin of Humboldt collided with Lewis Stowell on 8 Lincoln while both cars traveled north in the 500 block, denting the Stowell trunk. A pickup driven by Donald Reeves was damaged when backing from a driveway into a motor car operated by John Shorter near Cherry and Kansas. the backing car sustained no damage.

Omaha Woman Killed in Sabetha Area Crash
An Omaha woman Valerio G. Parker 36 died in a one car crash four miles south of Sabetha. Passengers Robert G. Venable Jr. 31 and Hilton Brunt of Omaha were injured with head injuries and a hip fracture respectively. The car struck a highway divider at the 75 and 36 intersection, crossed Highway 36 and rolled up an embankment before stopping.

President OKs plan to seek postage hike in January
President Eisenhower today approved Postmaster General Summerfield’s plan to urge Congress in January for higher postage to erase a half-billion dollar annual deficit. A first class rate could rise from 3 to 4 cents an ounce and air mail from 6 to 7 cents, with final details pending. Summerfield, ex-RNC chairman and 1952 campaign manager, said no politics were discussed during his 30 minute Fitzsimons Hospital meeting with the President. The White House said mail legislation would be nonpolitical.

Torch Bandit At Greeley Bank Heist
Greeley Bank in Greeley Kansas was broken into early today with a torch used to burn two vault doors. Robbers pried open a rear door and stole between 200 and 300 dollars in quarters and half dollars. Investigators from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation joined Anderson County officers. Greeley lies about ten miles northeast of Garnett.

A Kansas couple, Rudolph Wenzel aged 65 and Dorothea 50, were struck by a P A freight train in Plainfield yesterday. Dorothea was killed and Rudolph is in serious condition in Joliet Hospital. They resided in Lawrence.

Edward Isaacs age 19 died in a Topeka hospital from injuries from a Saturday night accident. Police say Isaacs walked into the car driven by 17 year old James Sisco. It was Topeka’s fourth traffic fatality of the year.

Prowlers Prompt Fatal Shot At Nashua Owner Home
Nassau detectives planned to question socialite Ann Woodward at the hospital to clear up additional points in the fatal shooting of her husband William Woodward Jr. The 35 year old horseman was killed by a 12 gauge blast as he stood in his doorway. Authorities say the shooting is being investigated as possibly accidental but still under review.
