Kansas Democrats hoped to swing the normally Republican state for the Tuesday vote with three last minute appearances by President Johnson and Sen. Hubert Humphrey in Wichita Topeka and Hutchinson. Humphrey assailed Goldwater as radical while Johnson focused on peace and prosperity. Crowds ranged from 7 000 to 10 000 in Hutchinson and Topeka with some heckling and a press area disruption as Humphrey praised Kansas Republicans Gov. Anderson and Alf Landon.
