CAPE CANAVERAL Florida AP experts expect the Saturn superbooster to enable orbital rendezvous rather than direct flight to shorten manned lunar missions. The test flight of the Saturn, the world’s largest rocket, sparked plans for a two-stage in-space docking to reach the moon.
Kansas Supreme Court grants Kenneth Morris a stay of sentence pending appeal from a Butler County District Court conviction on worthless check charges. Stay conditioned on posting a $5,000 bond. Morris received two 15 year sentences to run concurrently.
Lexington police probe the murder of 19 year old Transylvania University honor student Betty Gail Brown. Investigators found the body in her car with strangulation suspected. no sexual assault or robbery evidence. Detectives, led by Chief Hale, interview numerous witnesses including a fellow student who saw her just before midnight.
Chanute hosts a two day Halloween program with a downtown art marathon from 6 to 9 p m Monday featuring student teams painting windows with cash prizes totaling over 100 dollars. UNICEF drive at Royster Junior High follows school hours and a Tuesday night dance at the National Guard Armory features the Lancers. A free triple feature at Peoples Theater funded by local clubs runs both evenings.
Nearly 300 people including 63 from Fort Scott Altoona Wichita Pitts and others attended the fourth annual United Nations dinner at Hutton School last night. Students sang native numbers wore native dress and UNESCO helped sponsor with participation from Kansas University Pittsburg State College and Emporia State College. Miss Ire ne Maude Nieder, 47, of Butler died Friday night when her car hit a bridge on U S 71 near Butler. Driver Wilbur Jennings, 46, was blinded by oncoming car lights and suffered a bruised leg, according to Missouri Highway Patrol.
