Fire damaged the left hand pitch walls and roof of a small poultry shed at 1106 N Washington after a trash blaze at 4 10 p m. Police seek the identity of persons who set a highway barricade with flares on Highway K39 near the east river bridge last night and returned the stolen barricade materials to the station. One sign read Road Closed.

Robbery charge filed for KU student Topeka holdup

A 22 year old Kansas City man signed a statement admitting he struck a Nebraska truck driver who died in a hospital hours later. Tommy Bornaman was arrested while en route from Miami to Topeka. Raymond C Schmidt, 38, of Franklin Nebraska, died after the near collision. His father Albert C Bornaman, 45, faces second degree murder charges.
