Early Iola Barber Klinginsmith’s Century in One Man Shop

J T Klinginsmith completed barber college in 1919 and began work at 6 am the next day in Iola. He marked his 51st year in the trade in a West Main one man shop, recalling how shaves and haircuts priced 15 and 25 cents, with long hours and social shop life.

Blair Farm Builds New Arena For Western Horses

Erie area breeders Mr and Mrs Bill Blair raise Appaloosas and Quarter Horses. They sold 117 head this afternoon and plan to keep about 30 as they expand into a year round arena on the Blair farm seven miles southwest of Erie. The 100 by 192 foot steel and sheet metal facility seats 400, houses a sale ring and stalls, plus an outdoor track. Blair also makes stock trailers and hopes to form a riding club and train cattle horses.

Talks Set for US USSR Nuclear Arms Talks in Helsinki

Syrian force of 300 invades Lebanon near Yanta

An armored force of about 300 crossed from Syria into Lebanon and occupied hills near Yanta, four miles from the border. Five armored cars, three jeeps with recoilless rifles, and eight vehicles with mortars formed the column, reportedly a Syrian army contingent.
