Blast Fatal to Three at Leavenworth Prison Site
An explosion outside the U S Penitentiary in Leavenworth Kansas killed three people including a supervisory employee Elmer L Bauder and two inmates and injured five others. Prison officials called it the worst accident in 15 years as survivors were removed from the wreckage and next of kin notified. Warden J C Taylor said most inmates were expected to survive.

United Lutherans Approve Merger Formation of Lutheran Church of America
The United Lutheran Church in America approved a merger with three Lutheran groups by 640 to 1 to form the Lutheran Church of America. The Augustana American Evangelical Lutheran and Finnish Evangelical Lutheran bodies also approved the consolidation. President Rev. Driver Pleads Guilty in DWI Case in Justice Court

FAA to launch flight following service for pilots
