New ILC Plant Manager Named for Chanute Facility
Earl H. DeVries appointed as plant manager of the Industrial Lamp Company Chanute plant effective today. He succeeds Chester Cwik, transferred to open a sixth ILC plant in Ocala Florida. The South Side tavern at 9 S Santa Fe surrendered its beer license to the police department on Saturday. Police Chief Lige Matlock had notified operators that revocation proceedings would begin if not turned in before the city commission meeting. The tavern had recent fights including an October 2 incident leaving a bystander severely cut. The license was held by George W. Smith.

Night voter registration opens with extended hours
The Chanute city clerk’s office will stay open until 9 pm each night this week through Friday to register voters for the October 26 school bond election. Daytime hours also available. Friday is the final registration day and only residents of Chanute must register if they did not vote in the last general election, moved, changed name, or are voting for the first time.
