Gov. John Anderson forgot to issue a Pulaski Day proclamation though state law requires flag display and observances in schools and churches. Assistant Wallace White sought a usable proclamation. the 1935 act created the holiday honoring Gen Casimir Pulaski, who aided American forces and died in Savannah on Oct 11.

More Workers Needed In United Fund Drive
Chanute prepares for the first annual United Fund drive with ward captains and campaign leaders, seeking about 400 volunteers for a two-week effort starting Oct 23. Nation urged volunteers to contact Nation's Cleaners and a training meeting is scheduled in the Memorial Building. The goal is 19 876 92 dollars with 3000 wage earners expected to contribute one day’s pay to the six member groups including Red Cross and Salvation Army.

A day long Buffalo homecoming doubles as the state centennial observance with a parade at 11 a.m. from Main Street to the school grounds, free beans at noon, bean dinner, horse pulling contest at Chapman's pasture, children's races, a talent show at 7 p.m., and a 9 p.m. dance by the Buffalo American Legion. Marilyn Cutler and others vie for queen while prize floats and cars enter the parade. Homer May notes this is the 13th consecutive celebration with participation from Yates Center and Alt one’s centennial wagon train and 10 horse teams entered.

Injuries Fatal To George Breiner
George Breiner 67 of Norton Kansas died from injuries suffered in a traffic crash near Dederick Missouri. His wife was killed. Breiner had been active in Kansas Democratic politics and chaired Norton County Democratic committee for years. He was a 1960 Democratic National Convention delegate.

Wichita construction boom accident claims one life
A boom at a new library construction site on the University of Wichita campus collapsed. Oran R. Harris of Dondlinger Construction Co. died at hospital after being crushed under an 85 ton rig. Charles Walker sustained injuries in the incident.

Five Cars Derail in Nevada Nevada Train Yard Incident
