Left Hand Pitch Visits Tuberculosis Hospital Patients

Eight members of Pup Tent No 8 of the Coffeyville Cooties and Cootie Auxiliary visited the Southeast Kansas Tuberculosis Hospital, delivering five cartons of cigarettes 25 dozen cookies and handicraft materials to all patients. The group wore red hats and vests and this marked their third annual hospital visit led by Marie Powers and other officers including Mrs. Charles Miller Mrs. Jay Ritchie and Byron Carr.

The Yankees built an eight run edge with five runs in the fourth inning after a strong start in the first two frames. Kubek Maris Blanchard Howard Skowron Lopez all contributed key hits and scoring plays as New York piled on Cincinnati in the 1961 World Series fifth game.

Return of Jesus Grand Prize Float At Biblesta Event

Humboldt residents watched 45 parade units in the fourth annual Biblesta on a sunny day. The Poplar Grove Baptist float Re turn of Jesus won grand prize, while the Exodus float claimed first place for authenticity. Other top entries included Flaming Sword of Eden and Jesus and the Samaritan Woman. Gov. John Anderson opened the celebration and urged faith amid threats to heritage.

Court declines review of agency shop ban ruling

The Supreme Court refused to hear the Teamsters Union challenge to a Kansas Supreme Court decision allowing right to work laws to prohibit agency shop agreements. The ruling means nonunion workers may avoid paying union dues while unions serve as bargaining agents.

Chanute FFA Team Tops Regional Land Judging Meet

Chanute FFA edged Caney by 21 points to win the regional land judging contest at Chanute and qualify for nationals in Oklahoma City next spring. Neosho County placed second in the 4 H division. Chanute teams earned medals and a trophy for the top overall and high individual scores. The event was sponsored by Kansas State University Extension. Chanute sponsor Charles Carter Jr. led the team with Kenneth Swiler, Bill Taylor and Harold Sale. second Chanute team members were Roger Fickel, Eddie Moreland, Larry Kessler and Richard Stout.

Profit Sharing Plan Future Is in Doubt

AMC Local 72 at Kenosha Wisconsin rejected the auto maker’s profit sharing plan in a sparsely attended mass meeting. The vote, reportedly close, follows other UAW locals ratifying while Ford and GM face ongoing labor strife. The plan would give workers 10 percent cash and 5 percent stock after a 15 percent share of profits to employees.

Tribune Names Heaton News Tip Winner

Mrs Ralph Heaton of 304 S Lar was named winner of The Tribune weekly $3 news tip award. She reported a Civil Air Patrol mobile communications unit setting up at the Wichita airport to aid in the search for a missing plane en route from Red Oak Iowa to Jasper Texas.

Mrs. Johnson Dies After Traffic Crash

Mrs. Nellie Mildred Johnson died at Neosho Memorial Hospital from injuries after a crash at 1009 Ma in the night of Sept 16. Felipe Gutierrez faces fourth degree manslaughter charges. he was cited for driving while intoxicated and bonded $125 after hospital release. The crash involved a parked car Mrs Johnson and Hazel Russell occupied. Russell was injured but not hospitalized. Funeral arrangements are pending. Mrs Johnson, born July 22, 1907, taught since 1929 and held several community roles.
