Mrs. Sylvester Reed of 421 N Central displayed three large Red Delicious apples she brought from Yakima Valley. The biggest weighs 1 lb 5 oz. The trip began Aug 16, her first in 19 years, with siblings living in the area.
Eighty two Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union members walked out at Climax Molybdenum Co. oil water flood project near Nowata Oklahoma. They demand a 25 cent hourly raise after the company offered 10 cents for one year or two 10 cent boosts over two years. Roustabouts earned 1.45 and drillers 1.60 under the prior contract.
Traffic fatalities reported by the State Accident Records Section show 2 in the last 24 hours and 488 to date in 1956 versus 432 in the same period of 1959. The figures compare yearly totals and reflect ongoing road fatalities.

William A. Brooks, 31, of 1619 W. 14th, was treated at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a truck tire on a rim blew off while being mounted at the B. F. Goodrich store. Brooks, an employee, suffered minor chest injuries, right arm bruises, and a laceration to the right leg. He was released after treatment.
A 14 year old youth admitted setting three Greensboro fires causing about $9,000 in damage. He told police he did it to watch fires and see firemen work.
A C124 Globemaster based at Kelley AFB crashed on approach to Charleston AFB around 7:30 am. Ten crew aboard. three killed on impact, seven injured, with at least one in good condition. Names withheld pending next of kin. The craft, coming from Bermuda, was bound for Brookley AFB Mobile Alabama.
Kansas City officials forecast a population of 509000 after expanding 16.19 square miles eastward, boosting estimates from 495000. The 1950 census counted 456622, not including 129553 in neighboring Kansas City Kansas, with metro area at 814357.
The Calumet Township School District pilots a six room steel six room school at Hosford Park designed by Structo Schools Corp and United States Steel Corp. It aims to be cheaper and faster to erect than brick schools and is funded by a $15,000 down payment with $200,000 total cost. Completion is set for November 1, with early construction on a part time basis.

The commission voted to cancel the 58 000 gallon order due to late delivery and alleged specification failures.
A Columbus newspaper ad seeks a single man under 25 to drive in a staged head-on crash at Powell Speedway on Saturday October 6. It demands both cars speed 45 mph at impact and drivers sign unconditional release in case of injury or death, with price and details.
Arthur R. Bennett a 58 year old Woodson County farmer was killed instantly in a tractor truck crash on US 54 near Toronto. A hay truck driven by Billy Lee VanBuskirk 17 of Severy attempted to pass on a downhill slope and struck Bennett causing a fractured skull. Authorities Deputy Culver and Trooper Hansen said charges are being prepared. Bennett death is the fifth traffic fatality in Woodson County this year.
The Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 6-3 in the first game of the 1956 World Series. Sal Maglie, 39, recovered from a rough start after Mantle’s first inning homer to shut down the Yankee bats. Mantle hit his sixth Series home run, while Robinson hit a two run shot for the Dodgers, as Ford and the Yankee bullpen faltered early.
President Eisenhower arrives by air and is escorted by police and Secret Service to Ebbetts Field Brooklyn to toss the ceremonial first pitch as the Dodgers meet the Yankees in the opening World Series game. The event includes introductions for managers and a nonpolitical visit with no speeches.

Debra Waynetta White, 52, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne J White, won $1 062 50 from district court for injuries after a truck struck her on August 27 1955 in front of the North Lincoln post office. Defendants were Howard Carder doing business as North Lincoln Service Station and Robert Eugene Brundage.
