Iola Woman Dies After U S 169 Bridge Crash

Debra J. Peck, 22, of Iola, died at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a 12 20 a m two vehicle crash on the Neosho River bridge on U S 169 three miles north of Chanute. William J. Westerman, 24, Lola, was injured but in satisfactory condition. Michael E. Hardman and his two passengers sustained minor injuries. all were treated and released later. Police reported high speed, dry roads, and a fire following the collision as traffic backed up for about an hour. No charges had been filed.

City Officials Weigh Plummer Road Upgrade At Town Meeting

Explosion at Phillips Fairfax refinery shocks Kansas City

An explosion in a gasoline processing unit at the Phillips Petroleum Fairfax refinery in Kansas City Kansas lit the sky Sunday night. No injuries reported as two workers were nearby. Firefighters battled the blaze in cold 13 degree weather as officials warned of possible more blasts. Plant manager W J Snoddy called the incident uncommon and said the timing may halt gasoline production temporarily.

Kansans Face Auto Insurance Rate Increases

The Insurance Services Office says Kansas auto insurance will rise about 24.7 percent statewide, driven by higher costs for medical care hospitalization and auto repair. Moran notes rate variability by rating class location and coverage, with higher parts and labor costs since 1974 and hospital room costs rising from 95.89 to 133.52 in 1975.
