Iola Woman Dies After U S 169 Bridge Crash
Debra J. Peck, 22, of Iola, died at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a 12 20 a m two vehicle crash on the Neosho River bridge on U S 169 three miles north of Chanute. William J. Westerman, 24, Lola, was injured but in satisfactory condition. Michael E. Hardman and his two passengers sustained minor injuries. all were treated and released later. Police reported high speed, dry roads, and a fire following the collision as traffic backed up for about an hour. No charges had been filed.

An explosion in a gasoline processing unit at the Phillips Petroleum Fairfax refinery in Kansas City Kansas lit the sky Sunday night. No injuries reported as two workers were nearby.
