92 year old Chanute resident Mrs Ema H Hoshaw suffered severe burns when a robe she wore was ignited by gas flame at her apartment 1114 East Main Street around 11 20 a m Sunday. City clerk Howard Parsons received minor hand burns attempting to remove the burning clothing with assistance from Fred Foster Chanute clothier and Ellis at the Elks Club as a physician and ambulance were summoned.

Guy Samuel Jeffers, 74, a longtime Chanute music shop operator and former city commissioner, died at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a weeklong illness. born December 7 1880 in Oshkosh Wisconsin he moved to Chanute in 1911 and later retired in 1947.
