Roy Roberts retires from Kansas City Star leadership

Roy A. Roberts, who rose from carrier boy to chairman of the Kansas City Star, said on his 77th birthday he will withdraw from newspaper management and direction on January 1. A Muscatine native, he joined the Star in 1908 after KU and Lawrence Journal-World reporting, advancing from reporter to Washington correspondent, managing editor and general manager before becoming chairman two years ago.
