A Chanute group started 25th anniversaries in 1928 and marked 50th celebrations through 1953 including Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Freidline and Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Endsley. Also reported are Jupiter Saturn sightings and a radar era glow over the Midwest tied to foil dropped by jets.
In Topeka temperatures were forecast to approach late November records as a high pressure system promised fair, mild weather for the weekend. Readings expected to reach around 70 in parts of the state with highs from 69 in Goodland to 59 in Olathe and Hutchinson and overnight lows from 31 in Manhattan to 43 in Chanute and Pittsburg.
Lee Way Motor Freight Inc of Oklahoma City will discontinue its Joplin terminal in February. Manager Charles Knorpp says 36 drivers and their families will be moved to Tulsa Vinita Oklahoma or St. Louis. Lee Way operates freight hauling from Pennsylvania to West Texas and has run the Joplin terminal for 12 years.
Ervin Hunt, 32, of Everton Missouri was killed by a .410 shotgun blast during a scuffle with his wife at their home. He was struck in the left chest and died instantly as ten others were present. His wife Anaya, 35, was held for questioning.
The worldwide Communist summit in Moscow may be near closure after talks since Nov. 9. Khrushchev proponents urge patient peaceful competition, while Red China pushes for war if capitalism endures. Benjamin Orland Hemus aged 85 father of Sally Hemus of the St. Louis Cardinals died after a long illness at a San Diego rest home. He was born in 1860s and leaves behind family and baseball links.
In Kansas City area a 22 year old rookie patrolman Bennie A. Hudson was shot five times and killed after radioing for help during a car pursuit linked to a $200 diner holdup at Antonio's Pizzeria. Authorities arrested LeRoy Lee Larson, 29, in Excelsior Springs as the search continued with 60 officers and a helicopter.
About 40 million Christmas trees will brighten the season in the United States according to forestry experts. The estimate includes roughly 12 million imported trees from Canada and domestically grown stock.

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Kansas saw five fatalities from traffic accidents. In Topeka a 31 year old nurse Melba Hatfield died when her sports car left K36, rolled, and struck a ditch. Earlier, James E. Rogers aged 14 of McCracken died after his car crashed into a tree. William Douglas Moreland 6 of Topeka was hit while crossing, and Milton Mills 18 and Robert Floyd 16 of Jamestown died in a separate one car crash near Concordia. Gary Finch 17 of Jamestown was hospitalized.
A non injurious crash occurred at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday on Elm Street at Lincoln when Dorothy Pogue in a 1949 Ford and Harry P. Scott in a 1952 Buick collided as Scott attempted a left turn. Estimated damages: $100 to the Pogue vehicle and $50 to Scott.
Ross Fulmore thanks 60 Belleville firemen who fought a three hour blaze at his home by presenting them with a Thanksgiving turkey. Fulmore and his wife, plus eight relatives, then dined at a restaurant as the fire occurred during their own supper.
