The year’s total rainfall already tops the prior 1951 record by 1.91 inches and nears 58 inches, with April May September and October setting monthly marks. Floods along the Neosho River and flooding in Big Creek and Village Creek devastate crops, wells, and lowland farms as November storms intensify.
Temperatures fell below freezing in western Kansas with a low of 11 degrees at Goodland tying a season low. Salina and Abilene reported 23 degrees, eastern areas in the 30s under clearer skies. A Pacific front brings clouds tonight and Wednesday with a gradual warmup and highs in the 50s.
Congressman Walter McVey of Independence denounced foreign aid and the Peace Corps during a Kiwanis Farmers Night talk in Chanute. The Corporation Commission in Wichita schedules hearings on oil and gas matters for November 28 and the preceding day. Market demand for oil is noted as a key factor in the proceedings.
NASA announced plans to launch three TIROS weather satellites to improve analysis accuracy. Dr. Morris Tepper said data confirmed earlier reports that clouds reveal nature’s weather maps. Nimbus will replace TIROS in about a year, NASA Administrator James Webb stated.
Police report two Forbes Air Force Base youths held at Pryor Oklahoma in connection with weekend car thefts near Forbes and Chanute. James Perkins 18 and Frank Edward Fritts 17 admitted thefts to an FBI agent. a 1947 Chevrolet and a 1952 Nash were involved. The Nash was recovered at Pryor.

Chanute resident W. K. Ingroom better known as Rowdy the Clown has spent 15 years as a professional clown. He and partner Jim Martz donated their services for a Veterans Day parade where his Go-Kart stunts and near misses drew laughs and concern from drivers and spectators alike.
The annual Chamber of Commerce recognition dinner for area 4H leaders will be held at 6 30 tonight at Murray Hill school. A brief program has been arranged in conjunction with the meal for which about 200 persons are expected.

Richard Linsey, a roustabout described as craving women and cars, was executed today in the California gas chamber for raping and killing a 16 year old girl with help from his sixth wife who was pregnant.
One man died and another was seriously injured when a pickup and car collided on a county road east of Montezuma Kansas. Dead on arrival at a Dodge City hospital was 43 year old Donald Whitaker of Cimarron.
