Construction of New Boiler At Municipal Plant
Workers hoisted steel beams through a roof hole 78 feet above ground for the new boiler at the municipal electric plant. A 110 foot crane from Belgar Construction Co. of Kansas City lifted large beams and nonchalant steel workers walked on narrow beams six stories above the concrete floor. The boiler will produce 125000 pounds of steam per hour to operate a 7500 kilowatt turbine now on order, said Fred Mosier, plant superintendent. Concrete foundation for the turbine was recently completed.

Kansas Council Ends Session With Bill Proposals
The Kansas Legislative Council met in its final three day session in Topeka and issued recommendations for the 1957 Legislature. Members noted half the council failed to win reelection or did not seek it. Committees proposed a constitutional amendment to rehabilitate blighted areas and a two year study of local government finance. They found no need to duplicate budget information on expenditures and revenue. The oil and gas assessment report showed 1955 ad valorem taxes averaged 2.59 percent of market value in 12 counties, without recommending a severance tax. Recommendations also covered belts meeting highway standards, a comprehensive highway survey, reduced duplicate milk inspections, and limiting enforcement to one state agency. The council killed a proposal to make all ex officio members. a vandalism liability bill for parents was introduced. Additional bills would require banks to pay interest on inactive state funds and encourage industry location in Kansas.
