Runaway Steel Barge Wrecks Utah Trestle

A runaway steel barge loaded with rock broke loose from its tug and rammed a 60 foot hole in the Lucia Cutoff railroad trestle near Ogden Utah. A cattle train heading west was halted before the break and detours were set around the lake while crews work to repair the 12 mile trestle carrying Southern Pacific mainline tracks.

Car Window Tragedy Claimed 22 Month Old in Kansas City

Lucinda Lynn Howell, 22 months, died after her mother rolled up a car window without looking. Mrs. Vega M. Howell, 25, was in the front seat with a neighbor as three children played in back. A draft prompted the roll up, and Lucinda’s head was in the window. she suffocated when the glass closed.

Gun Accident Wounds Hays Boy

A 9 year old, Dale Montgomery, was wounded when a 410 gauge shotgun discharged in a car. The gun fired from the front seat as the father, Willis Montgomery of Hays, prepared to hunt. The exact cause of the weapon discharge was not known.

Veterans Day Parade Honors Service Members in Chanute

A Veterans Day parade in Chanute featured color guards from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars leading the march from City Park on Main Street. Dentist Dr Homer Cook Injured In City Car Crash

Dr Homer E Cook of 511 N Evergreen Chanute was injured Saturday afternoon in a two car collision at Highland and Walnut at about 12 45 PM.
