Chanute observes Veterans Day with a 10 30 a m parade from City Park to Main Street featuring bands floats clowns and local queens. A free beef stew dinner follows at City Park with hot dogs and pop for bands and units at the fire station. An amateur show at 2 30 p m at the Memorial building caps the observance. Eisenhower Hospitalized at Fort Gordon for Chest Pains
Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 75, was admitted to Fort Gordon Army Hospital with chest pains and placed in an oxygen tent as doctors evaluate if he suffered a mild heart attack. Dr. Thomas Mattingly said results would be known in up to 36 hours and described the condition as very satisfactory. He noted precautions and that Eisenhower slept, woke, and spoke with his wife and son.

Joyriding Charged in Chanute Teens
Chanute police charged two teenage boys with misdemeanor joyriding after they borrowed a 1965 Mustang to get a Coke and did not return it. Bill Gray III, 17, of 1211 W Oak, and Jay Criger, 18, of 223 S Forest, borrowed the car from Ralph Taylor, 602 S Kansas. Taylor alerted police and the highway patrol when the vehicle was not returned. A telephone call from Mississippi earlier that day reportedly informed authorities of the boys’ plans to return after resting.
