A 1933 Plymouth coupe sold for 850 at the Chris Peterson antique and farm machinery sale southeast of Chanute. Ney buyer was Swaney Auto Service of Chanute. The car, custom built and in immaculate condition with 24000 miles, drew wide attention after display at a local bank. The sale drew about 500 people at its peak from up to 200 miles away.

Gas Off At Iola
A bulldozer damaged the main feeder line west of Iola this morning cutting gas to much of the city. Utilities officials said crews were working and service should be restored by evening. Residents were asked to turn off pilot lights to reduce load.

Wade injured in motorcycle crash near Ash Grove plant
Edward L. Wade of Humboldt was treated at Neosho Memorial Hospital after a Saturday night motorcycle crash on US 169 near the Ash Grove cement plant drive. Trooper Don Richardson said the 1965 Honda lost steering, hit a culvert, and its front wheel detached, causing about $50 in damage. Wade, son of Humboldt Police Chief Ross Wade, sustained hip injuries and cuts but remained in satisfactory condition.

Alexis Johnson Wins Rockefeller Public Service Award
Deputy Undersecretary of State U. Alexis Johnson received the $10,000 Rockefeller public service award for foreign affairs.
